Thursday Thankfulness

indiana farmland summer

As our Indiana Summer threatens to come to a close, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude for this season of life we are experiencing.  Although this summer has had its share of trials, there have been numerous blessings. God has provided for us, and lavished His mercy and grace upon us in ways we do not deserve.

Here’s some things I’m thankful for on this Thursday:

~ the beauty of Indiana farmland

~ the joys and accomplishments of finishing swim lessons

~ the quietness of the house after the boys are fast asleep

~ the return of raindrops this past week

~ a good report at my post-op appointment and another week of getting stronger

~ the blessings of friendships near and far

~ watching my boys love on their grandparents

~ watching our parents love on their grandkids

~ exploring God’s creation

~ Indiana sweet corn

~ the smell of clean laundry

~ a home that might not be as clean as I’d like, but it’s been played in and loved on

~ good study time in the Word

~ a refreshing glass of sweet tea

What are YOU thankful for this Thursday?

Recovery Day 4

Several days in since surgery now and Jen is making some really good progress.  We were told that she would not be able to stand up straight for as long as a few weeks, and she is very close to straight right now.  She was also able to walk 2 blocks early this morning, so I am really encouraged by her strides forward.

She is still struggling with nausea from the pain medication and exhaustion, but things could certainly be worse.  Her days have so far mostly consisted of laying in the recliner, sleeping off the pain meds.

We are so thankful to our family for taking the boys off our hands for a few days.  My parents took all four boys initially, then Isaac and Henry went with my sister and her husband to a Detroit Tigers baseball game.  (Brooks and Clark get to go in August)

Here are a few pictures my sister sent of their fun while momma recovers.

So thankful for so much support during this trial.  Our families, friends, and church are praying, helping with the kids, providing meals, and giving encouragement regularly.  Thank you to everyone, and praise God for such a great start to recovery.

Even thought I hate to see my bride in such discomfort, it is so nice to be able to focus on her needs in a quiet house.  She will be back up and going very soon I hope.

Have a great Memorial Day everyone!

Thank You For Walking With Us

Your response to my struggles and upcoming surgery has been overwhelming. Once again you have embraced us with your love, encouragement, and support. I read so many of your comments aloud to Brad with a shaky voice and teary eyes. I’m so so so grateful for you all, Friends!

We are taking the next couple of days to enjoy some time together as a family and as a couple doing some “out of the box” things. It’s a great distraction from the seriousness of the upcoming weeks.

Thank you again for being our extended family and for loving us so well. It makes walking this road not as difficult when we know we are not alone in the journey.

“…He Himself has said, “I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you, so that we confidently say,
“The Lord is my helper , I will not be afraid.” Hebrews 13:5b-6a
