1 Fish. 2 Fish…

taking a five year old fishing catching blue gill fishing with kids fishing for blue gill with kids places to fish in indiana with kids

The boys caught not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4…but 8 fish in 9 casts the other night. As you can see from their expressions, they were quite proud of themselves.

These boys love being outdoors, especially with their daddy.  {And I have to admit, I love an hour in a quiet house after a long day!} It works out quite “swimmingly”, don’t you think?

What’s your kids’ favorite “Daddy Time” activity?

The Not So Elaborate Days…

I can feel it slipping – these days of sunshine and simplicity.

Days of neglecting some of the to-do’s for the gifts in front of me…

Days of constant noise and chatter…

Days of make believe, laughter, togetherness, and play…

Days of childhood that can be cherished a little longer…

It’s fleeting at an unstoppable speed.

So today there will be things that get neglected in order to soak more of THIS in.  There is a blanket in the sunshine that has our names on it this afternoon for reading.  We’ll sit outside for our meal so that clean-up is quicker.  Chaos will be responded to with calmness (at least that’s the goal). And we’ll pick easy over complicated.

Today we’ll choose to live seeing life not as an emergency, but as a gift.

And at the end of the day I doubt one of them will ask me why I didn’t get around to folding the last load of laundry, or emptying the dishwasher, or answering emails…

It may not be elaborate, but it’s a day we are going to embrace and live.

Four Future IU Candy Stripers?

iu uniforms candy stripes and logo

Kentucky Wildcats are partying as National Champions, but IU Basketball is in my blood.  I grew up watching the candy striped warm-up pants on our Zenith color television waving my pom poms in front of the screen (much to my dad and brothers’ annoyance), and reciting player names since I could talk.

This weekend our family found ourselves in the right place at the right time, and we were able to experience Assembly Hall in rare form – empty and in giant play ground for our little NCAA hopefuls. ;)

Although we live in a house divided:  3 for Purdue (Brad, Henry, and Isaac) and 3 for IU (me, Clark, and Brooks), everyone was enthusiastic about being courtside and shooting some hoops in this historic arena. (We ALL agree on cheering for Butler!)

Can you envision the striped shirts being replaced with striped pants and warm up shirts in about 13 years?
